The Opportunity

Lesley University's Department of Social Science is seeking a qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: CAPPL 3501, Visual Sociology and Actions through Arts and Design. Mondays 6:45-9:15pm. Fully in-person, on-campus.

Course Description:

This course explores visual sociology, which examines the social world through images, photographs, and films rather than text or numbers. Students study human behavior using visual methods and reflect on their own perspectives as they analyze social inequities related to gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, and abilities. Through a collaborative approach, students apply sociological theories to social justice issues, with a focus this semester on immigration, and create a visual project illustrating their findings.

Qualities and Capabilities

A successful candidate will have:

  • Master's degree in Sociology or related degree (required); PhD (preferred)

  • Successful experience teaching visual sociology at the undergraduate level

  • Experience in constructivist, inquiry-based learning

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
