This position is located in Canon City, CO at the Royal Gorge Field Office in the Rocky Mountain District. Minimum Qualifications for the 0462 Forestry Technician Series at the GS-07:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Demands:
The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field work requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting. Field work may occasionally require the incumbent to climb ladders and trees.
Work Environment:
Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air-conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The work may occasionally require working at heights. The incumbent carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
Education:
Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-05 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-07. If using education to qualify, you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.
